A circular economy opens many opportunities for different industries and products, but the implementation involves many challenges. The scientific article “Circular Economy Potential for the Carpet Industry “ with Klaus Wiesen as a co-author was published in the Journal of Global Economics in collaboration. The paper provides approaches for the carpet industry to promote the circular economy in previously neglected industries and to overcome barriers. With their focus on the EU market, the authors examine the use of materials in the carpet industry, analyse the effect of existing political frameworks and determine the material footprint of carpet production using three scenarios. Considering the economic and ecological factors, the authors argue that focusing on high recycling rates alone is not enough. Instead significant design changes are the key to drive the circular economy. Click here for the complete article.
